Postman doesn’t even ring once
Postman doesn’t even ring once
I was always an advocate for the postal service. Maybe because I remember collecting stamps with my grandmother or how exciting it was when i was a child to receive a package or get the daily mail.
That was then, when we had a regular mailman. Today I never know when the mail will arrive, One day it is 10 a.m. and the next 4 p.m. I live on the South Side in one of the most dangerous parts of the city, so having some idea when they will arrive would be helpful to make sure I get the mail. But that is no longer possible.
In the last month two things I have ordered have not arrived. With the holiday season upon us, ordering things no longer seems like an option, and how frustrating is that? I question too whether my mail was delivered to a neighbor and they kept it, but I’m not supposed to question my neighbor’s honesty. And it’s not supposed to be delivered to my neighbor, it’s supposed to be delivered to me.
A lot of the postal boxes in town have also been removed, so on a recent Monday I went to the Poland post office to mail my bills, as I prefer to support the post office and not do it online. I attempted to put my bills in an overflowing box that apparently had not been emptied all weekend, even though I was there two hours after it was supposed to have been collected. I reached back in and got some of my mail out, but will have to wait to see if my check clears on the other bill — or perhaps someone after me reached in and took out my bill. I know I could have taken other peoples mail, as it was sticking out. This is not the first time I have seen over filled mail boxes and always at a branch.
With the holiday season upon us, I am sure this will be an on-going problem. And I must say with the stress of not knowing about the safety of my bill that day, I am now considering online paying.
I have always supported the postal service and preferred to mail things that way. Someone said to me the postal service is in trouble, which is why they are considering getting rid of Saturday delivery. I replied out of frustration that at least then I would know for sure my mail wasn’t coming that day.
