Shoe drive

BOARDMAN

Podiatrists with Ankle & Foot Care Centers are asking residents to help the area’s less fortunate by donating new or nearly new pairs of shoes at any of the group’s 19 locations. Specific shoe- collection stations are on the group’s website at www.ankleandfootcare.com. The goal of the podiatrists’ 2010 shoe drive, which ends Jan. 7, is 800 pairs of shoes.

Immunization clinic

GIRARD

The Girard Health Department, 100 W. Main St., is offering a well-child immunization clinic Wednesday at 11 a.m. There is a $5 administrative fee per child. Parents are reminded to bring a copy of their child’s immunization record and that a parent or guardian must accompany children under 18. Preregistration is required. Breast health

Hermitage/Mercer, PA.

Dr. Maryann Payne, breast surgeon with the Magee Comprehensive Breast Center at UPMC Horizon, is offering free, public programs on breast health. “Myths and Mingle” is Dec. 13 at Rachel’s Roadhouse, Mercer, from 6 to 8 p.m.; and “Breast Surgery Options” is Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon. YOUNGSTOWN

The Tri-County Family Violence Prevention Coalition has received a $50,000 grant from the HealthPath Foundation of Ohio. The Coalition, which serves Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, also promotes prevention of workplace violence. Help Hotline Crisis Center is the fiscal agent for the grant.

Merv and Marlene Hollander of WeatherTite Windows have presented $2,400 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. The donation represents the proceeds from a recent promotion in which the company donated $5 for specific windows sold between Sept. 7 and Oct. 4.

Grant awarded

SHARON, Pa.

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield has awarded United Way of Mercer County a $19,500 grant for UW’s Success by Six/¢ Summer Program for pre-kindergarten children. This United Way initiative has assisted in school-readiness training of more than 1,000 pre-kindergarten children in local communities.

Benefit concert

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Community Concert Band, under the direction of Joseph Pellegrini, will perform a benefit Christmas Concert on Saturday at the Ford Family Theater – DeYor Center for the Performing Arts, 260 West Federal St. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert starts at 8.

Admission is a cash donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The concert is made possible by a grant received by the band from the city of Youngstown.

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band, which has been performing in the Mahoning Valley for 25 years, consists of professional and recreational musicians of all ages from Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. The band practices at Youngstown State University’s Bliss Hall.
