Miniature cities welcome holidays in a big way
Ward-Thomas Museum in Niles features a number of miniature city scenes for the public to view, including this one of famed New York City landmarks, such as Yankee Stadium; the Flatiron Building; Times Tower, where the glass ball drops to ring in the new year; Radio City Music Hall complete with some Rockettes dancing; and the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Ward-Thomas Museum will display one of the largest miniature city scenes during an open house Sunday.
The “Department 56” ceramic buildings can be viewed throughout the museum. The 200-piece private collection grew over the years and was recently donated to the museum by Father Fred Trucksis of Niles.
Some of the more notable buildings are New York’s Yankee Stadium; the Flatiron Building; Times Tower, where the glass ball welcomes in the new year; Radio City Music Hall complete with the Rockettes dancing; and the Ed Sullivan Theater.
The museum, at 503 Brown St., is at the corner of Brown and Third Street, one block east of the Third Street and Route 46 intersection on the south side of Niles.
The museum is open from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. To cover expenses, a donation of $5 for each adult is requested. Children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
