3 men, juvenile accused of trying to steal vehicle

Staff report

WARREN

Officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and a Howland police officer arrested three Youngstown men and a juvenile suspected in a failed motor-vehicle theft.

Warren Patrolman Tim Parana and others were traveling in unmarked vehicles on East Market Street in Warren when they learned of a 1 p.m. Tuesday attempted car theft in the 1900 block of East Market Street.

Officers spotted a dark-colored vehicle with large wheels similar to the one used in the attempted theft and followed it into Howland, where they and Howland Officer Bill Barna made a traffic stop near the intersection of East Market Street and state Route 46.

Inside the vehicle, officers recovered pliers, a brick, screwdriver and the title to a car stolen from Youngstown.

The occupants were Cory Cochrane, 24, of East Lucius Avenue, who pleaded innocent Wednesday in Warren Municipal Court to felonies of attempting to commit an offense, receiving stolen property and possessing criminal tools; Eddie Winphrie, 27, of West Hylda Avenue, who pleaded innocent to felonies of complicity and possessing criminal tools; and Andrew Swanson, 32, of West Glenaven Avenue, who pleaded innocent to felonies of complicity, possessing criminal tools and receiving stolen property.

A 17-year-old boy from Cohasset Drive was turned over to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center.

The victim of the attempted car theft identified Cochrane and the juvenile as being the people who tried to steal her car.
