Square-dance club offers dance, lessons
NILES
The Friendly Squares, a new Western-style square dance club, invites the public to a free evening of square dance/line dance at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Niles SCOPE Senior Center, 14 E. State St. Beginners can learn as they go. The dance is not just for seniors.
Dances will start Sept. 15, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. for plus- level dancers. Gene Hammond, professional caller and instructor, will conduct the lessons and dances.
The Friendly Squares also gives benefit performances and demonstrations; participates in parades and travels to other clubs for dances. To schedule a demonstration, call 330-534-4426.

Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music, in collaboration with the Butler Institute of American Art, will present Music at Noon performances every Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Butler. The free concerts will begin Sept. 15 and conclude at the end of November. They will resume in January. Parking is free at the Butler.
