Doubledays double up the bottom-feeding Scrappers

The losing streak continues for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, who dropped their fifth- consecutive game in a 4-2 loss to the Auburn Doubledays on Sunday.
The Scrappers (28-41) remain in the cellar of the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League. The Doubledays (31-37) sit in front of the Scrappers with seven games to play.
The Scrappers drew first blood with a run in the first inning.
Carlos Moncrief scored on a single by Giovanny Urshela. Moncrief got on base on the first of his two triples.
The Doubledays answered with a pair of runs in two innings later. The team had 10 hits, but the damage could have been more significant. Auburn stranded a total of 12 base runners.
It was more of the same story for the Scrappers’ bullpen. Starter Anthony Dischler lasted only two innings, but didn’t allow a run. He struck out two, and didn’t walk a batter.
Reliever Casey Gaynor gave up two runs on seven hits in four innings. The Doubledays scored another two runs off Kirk Wetmore in the seventh. Wetmore was credited with the loss.
The teams will each other again, but this time in the confines of Eastwood Field. The three-game series begins tonight at 7:05 p.m.
