Hit parade doesn’t net win for lowly Scrappers

Thirteen hits powered the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Saturday night, but it produced only one run.

The Scrappers (28-40) dropped their fourth consecutive game with a 4-1 loss to the Auburn Doubledays. The Scrappers stranded 16 runners, and were only 3-of-16 with runners in scoring position.

The Scrappers lone run came in the seventh inning when Trent Baker scored on a single by Giovanni Urshela.

The Doubledays (30-37) had only four hits. Cole Cook picked up his second loss of the season, allowing a pair of unearned runs. He struck out four batters and walked three.

Auburn starter Sam Strickland allowed seven of the Scrappers’ hits, but didn’t allow a run to score. He struck out five and didn’t allow a walk. Reliever Brandon Berl allowed the run for Mahoning Valley.

The Scrappers return to the bottom of the Pinckney Divison of the New York-Penn League with only eight games left in the regular season.

The Scrappers will play Auburn again tonight at 7:05 p.m. before returning home Monday. The Scrappers will face Auburn again in a two-game series at Eastwood Field.
