Funds for cystic fibrosis research will be raised with Great Strides

Funds from the 11th annual Great Strides walk and from the 6th annual Tee Off to Cure CF golf outing will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Northern Ohio Chapter to support research and specialized care that will improve the quality of life for those with cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening genetic disease.
Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s nationwide fundraising walk, which raises money to support vital CF research.
Registration for the Great Strides walk will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 18 at Master’s Pavilion in Boardman Township Park. Mark Monstrola, meterologist with WFMJ’s Today Show, will kick off the walk at 10.
There is no fee to walk, and donations will be appreciated. After the walk, there will be a lunch for participants, a raffle and family-friendly entertainment.
The golf outing on Sept. 19 at Pine Lakes Golf Club in Hubbard will begin with registration and lunch at 1 p.m., followed by a shotgun start at 2. Todd Franko, editor at The Vindicator, will be the honorary chairman for the event, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, an Outback Steakhouse dinner, a raffle and cash awards.

Last year more than $50,000 was raised for CF research through a local wine tasting program and the two events.
