Fire injures Howland woman

A township woman is in Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Unit after a home she was in caught fire.

The blaze erupted around 3:20 a.m. Saturday at 2711 Orchard Ave., according to a news release.

The woman was the only one inside the home at the time and was rescued by firefighters and taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital for treatment. She was later transported to the Akron Burn Unit.

Her name hasn’t been released and her condition was unavailable Saturday evening.

Howland was assisted by Weathersfield Fire Department and the Youngstown Air Base. It took 33 firefighters and five engines to extinguish the blaze, the news release stated.

The structure was deemed a total loss, with more than $50,000 in structural and content damages.

The cause is still under investigation by Howland Fire Department.
