Head Coach Ronie Haurin returns for her 15th campaign, hoping her team can improve upon its 11-13 overall and 2-5 All American Conference (Red Tier) mark from a season ago.

“We have more height in our lineup than we have ever had. Our strength is our passing and setting game and we have considerable experience as well,” she said. “We should be very competitive because we have true team players; players who think of the team first and themselves second.

“I believe we can compete for the top position in our conference, while a goal remains to advance to the district final at Stow.”

The Cardinals lost to Boardman in the sectional finals last year and will return nine letterwinners to the fold in 2010.

The four seniors expected to lead the group include right side hitter Mary-Kate Andrews, defensive specialist Joey DeLisio, Elaina Bettura and Alyssa Lanzo.

Sophomore Sabrina Mangapora and junior Abby Malsch will provide the power outside. Mangapora was the Cardinals’ best all-around player last year with 145 kills and 47 solo blocks.

Juniors Hannah Milstead and newcomer Holly Rolla will provide strength in the middle, while two seasoned setters will guide the offense. They include juniors Sarah McGraw and Ellie Rafoth.

The Cards will be missing two of their leading passers. Kellie Kesner is recovering from her second ACL tear (she had the highest dig average last year). Cara Cupler set the school record for most digs, while leading the team in service aces, points and assists.
