Mayor, Mrs. Wiliams welcome first child today

Mayor Jay Williams and his wife, Sonja, welcomed their first child over the weekend.

Williams said Ethan Jawara Williams was born at St. Elizabeth Health Center early Saturday morning.

“I think it’s been the single- most-gratifying experience, and I’m sure I share those sentiments with my wife,” he said. “We’re blessed to see our first child born healthy.”

The city’s mayor said he’s looking forward to raising his son in Youngstown.

“I’m looking forward to ... how [being a parent] will change my life and make me a better person,” he said.

Williams said he and Sonja want to do the best they can so that Ethan can thrive.

“We’ll make sure he has ample opportunity to pursue whatever gifts God has in store for him,” he said.
