The Austintown library children’s room was filled with budding baby brainiacs Aug. 12.

The baby brilliant program is intended for babies 6 to 23 months and aims to entertain the little ones with age-appropriate books, songs, rhymes and hand games.

“Of course, your little one can’t read just yet. But prereading skills like familiarity with books and pages, as well as hearing your voice reading to them, will do wonders down the line,” said children’s librarian Hayley McEwing to parents.

McEwing read storybooks to the babies and then led the parents and kids to a sing-along and dance to “All You Need is Love.” The activities helped teach the parents that print awareness, letter knowledge and vocabulary will help their children in their future reading.

After all the fun, Lynne Sinchak said of her 5-month-old granddaughter, Guilana Sebastiani, “We figured it really never is too early for her to learn to read.”
