Lawn concert to be held Sunday

An outdoor lawn concert with “The Bridge” is scheduled at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Church Hill Road, with a variety including classic rock, reggae, country, easy listening, gospel and contemporary praise music. Those attending should bring lawn chairs. There will be free refreshments. In case of bad weather, the event will be in the church.

Free community Christian concert

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, will host a free concert for the community at 7 p.m. today featuring a newly formed local Christian group, “The Response.” One of Good Hope’s “Leap of Faith” praise team members, Al Fiore, will perform original songs.

Jesus “The Key” Ministry is sponsoring trips. They are: Sept. 8, Chautaqua, N.Y.; Sept. 30, Max Lucado, Michael W. Smith and Toby Mack at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown; Oct. 4-6, Lancaster, Pa., and Philadelphia; Oct. 28, Sugarcreek and Dutch tour; Nov. 8-14, Branson, Mo.; and Dec. 7-8, Lancaster.

Browns Gospel Group to perform

The Browns Gospel Group will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Salem First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Ave. The Browns of LeMars, Iowa, includes Shelly, Michaela, Adam and Andrew, who deliver the Gospel message through word and song.

The Browns received the prestigious honor of Top 10 Mixed Group of the Year for the second year in a row. They recently finished recording their newest CD in Nashville entitled “A New Day.”

Musical planned

“Oh Happy Day,” a musical, is planned Sept. 5 at Norton Manor, 1400 Springdale Ave., by Calvary Freewill Holiness Church, 341 Jefferson St., where Lawrence Ross is pastor. A dinner will be at 3:30 p.m. and the Sons of Joy will perform at 5.

Forgiveness and healing celebration

Jewish/Christian Studies/North will celebrate forgiveness and healing during an ecumenical celebration on the Sabbath before Rosh Hashanah at 8 p.m. next Saturday at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way. The Rev. George Balasko and Rabbi Joseph Schonberger will conduct the service.

New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will sponsor a Youth Gospel Extravaganza at 6 p.m. today with the theme “I Belong to God.” Sponsored by the children’s choir of the church, the event will feature the church mime ministry, rapper Paris Wallace, Mark Rheins Jr., Woody Jones, Robert Pickard, Eve Griffin and Ike Henry Jr.

Billboard dedication

Bishop George Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will bless and dedicate a Right To Life Billboard, located behind St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave., at 2 p.m. next Saturday. The billboard is visible 24 hours a day in either direction on I-680, south of the Midlothian Boulevard exit.

The billboard is a gift of the area Knights of Columbus councils to the diocese and was a fund-raising project of K of C Council 11369 in Canfield. Parking is available behind the church with a short walk through a field to the billboard. A picnic lunch will follow at the church.

A.R.K. program

A.R.K. (Awesome Rotating Kids), a Sunday school program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, is planned at Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. The first session will begin this weekend and is scheduled from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Sunday. There will be cooking in the Bread of Life Cafe, a storyteller in Father’s Word Tent, acting at Solid Rock Productions, building in the Carpenter’s Shop, singing at Make a Joyful Noise and playing Christian computer games at Jesus@yourfingertips.GOD. Anointing Mass

An anointing Mass will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at St. Casimir Church, 145 Jefferson St. The Rev. John Keehner will anoint the sick, suffering, troubled and elderly. After Mass, a light lunch will be served.

Choir singers needed for fair service

Singers are invited to assemble at the stage near the grandstand at the Canfield Fair for an ecumenical worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 5. A rehearsal will be at 9 a.m. followed by the presentation of two anthems during the service. Musical direction and special music will be presented by Tom and Kelly Scurich assisted by Margaret and Barbara Fieger. Participants will be reimbursed for admission that day.

Greater Mahoning Valley District Church of God in Christ Women’s Department will hold its second annual workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at Ebenezer Life Center COGIC, 566 W. Indianola Ave. Registration is $15 and includes breakfast and lunch. Janice Beachum is coordinator.
