Boardman spikers feature experienced squad

Head coach Glenn Sivak, in his fifth season as head coach of the BHS girls volleyball program, is hoping this year’s team can improve upon last year’s impressive 17-5 mark and 10-4 Federal League finish.
Gone are four seniors from last year’s team, including Monica Touvelle, Nicole Diagetti, Amanda Larson and Kim Maravola.
Returning to the fold is plenty of experience, however, with six seniors, two juniors and a sophomore ready to pick up where their departed teammates left off.
“We have a lot of experience coming back, so that gives me a cautious optimism about this year’s team. They already have their goals and are ready for the season to get started. I honestly feel that if they do what they are capable of doing, then we should have a successful year,” Sivak said.
The six seniors returning include Jenna Corroto, Kristy Lake, Jenna Powell, co-captains Stephanie Sfara and Amanda Volosin, and Kayleigh Lipke, a two-year letterwinner who rejoins the team after sitting out last season.
The juniors include Cassie Saunders and Ellen Faust with the lone sophomore Lauren Davila rounding out the varsity roster.
A program is only as good as its feeder system and Sivak is blessed to have an excellent junior varsity team as well.
Juniors Joelle Thomas, Jenna Farragher and Allyson Waterbeck, sophomores Julia Barnett, Caitlin Cina, Domini Genovese, Molly Lyons and Colleen Manning and freshman Megan Volosin comprise that squad.
“The Federal League is always tough, but that presents a good challenge for us. You just need to be ready each and every time you hit the floor,” Sivak added.
