Babies and books having bonding experience
By ABBY SLANKER
Babies 6 to 23 months were bonding with books at the Poland library Aug. 18.
The library’s program, Bonding with Babies and Books, provided babies and parents developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that help children become successful readers.
The program also offered the opportunity for parents and children to get to know each other through books and play.
Linda Kucalaba, assistant supervisor of the Poland library, led the group in reading books, singing songs and reciting rhymes.
After this group activity was a period of sharing during which the children and parents are given time to play with toys, including puzzles, blocks, puppets, shape sorters, plastic rings, cars and more. The children and parents may mingle and play with whatever they like and may stay as long as they want.
The Bonding with Babies and Books story time is part of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley’s Baby Brilliant program. Story time programs are designed for parents to learn simple techniques for reinforcing skills that will help make their children skillful readers.
The Bonding with Babies and Books story time is held every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Poland library. For more information, call 330-744-8636.
