New Ohio park opens at former Goodyear retreat

SUFFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s newest state park has opened near Akron and will offer an occasional aerial spectacle from a neighboring Goodyear blimp.

State officials dedicated Wingfoot Lake State Park on Thursday night. It’s located at a former Goodyear employee recreation area.

The park overlooks the huge Goodyear hangar that’s home to one of the tire maker’s three blimps. Goodyear still owns 128 acres on the lake’s southern edge for blimp operations.

The state acquired 690 acres at Wingfoot Lake in 2009 for $3.2 million with help from the Trust for Public Land.
