Spyglass technology
SALEM
The Gastroenterology Center of Salem, a service of Salem Community Hospital, is one of 300 hospitals in the nation to use Spyglass Æ technology to visualize the bile ducts and gallbladder. Using this technology, physicians are better able to diagnose and treat obstructions such as gallstones, suspicious lesions and other conditions of the biliary system. Spyglass is also used for better diagnosis of some cancers and allows physicians to better plan potential cancer treatments. Spyglass technology uses an endoscope that has a 6,000-pixel fiberoptic probe to obtain images of the biliary ducts. This procedure allows physicians to view remote locations within the body in real time.
