American Cancer Society to sponsor rescheduled ‘Bark for Life’ fundraiser

NILES

The parking lot adjacent to the Outback Steakhouse in Niles will be the site on Saturday for a “Bark for Life” event for dogs and their owners. Originally scheduled for July and canceled due to the extreme heat, the rescheduled event will be a fundraiser to fight cancer.

Dogs of all breeds and their owners are welcome to participate in the event, a scaled-down version of the Relay for Life.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and a survivor’s walk will begin at 10:30. There will be a best trick contest at 11, and at 11:30 awards and prizes will be announced for the biggest dog, smallest dog, cutest dog and best-dressed dog.

There will be a $10 registration donation the day of the event and dogs will be screened as they check in. Only sociable dogs will be permitted to participate, and they must be on a leash at all times. Cleanup is the responsibility of owners.

“Bark For Life” donations will be accepted through Tuesday. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society. For more information contact Pam Wilson at the ACS, 1-888-227-6446, ext. 2207.
