On Saturday, the American Cancer Society will have a “Bark For Life” fundraiser to fight cancer. The rescheduled event for dogs and their owners will take place in the parking lot next to Outback Steakhouse in Niles.

The Bark For Life, a scaled- down Relay For Life, gives people an opportunity to fight cancer through their four-legged companion. All dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes are welcome to participate with their owner. Registration is at 10 a.m. and a survivor’s walk for dogs and owners will begin at 10:30 a.m. Following the survivor’s lap around 10:45 a.m., all dogs and their owners will walk leisurely in the parking lot of the Outback Steakhouse. All dogs will have the opportunity to participate in contests and win awards. There is a $10 registration fee. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Bark For Life donations will be accepted through Tuesday.

Softball tournament

AUSTINTOWN

The A Way With Words Foundation, which benefits local breast cancer programs, is having a Saving Second Base Softball Tournament Sunday at Austintown Township Park. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the game starts at 10 a.m. Judge Elizabeth Kolby, a 10-year breast cancer survivor, will throw out the first pitch. The National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance will be performed by the ROCcK Children’s Choir. Event coordinator Brenda Rider said it is a new family approach to help women and men get through the aftermath of breast cancer. The tournament is a family event that includes players and spectators of all ages.

Women’s program

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Jameson Community Hospital offers “Strong Women: New Steps to Breast Health,” a 12-week program to offer physical, emotional and psychological benefits with a focus on nutrition and exercise. Classes are one hour with a five-minute warm-up with 8 to 12 safe, simple exercises using hand and ankle weights. Instructors will demonstrate proper exercise techniques with special adapted exercises for breast cancer survivors. Classes are from 5 to 6 p.m. and start Sept. 13. The cost is $30. ‘Girls Night Out’

YWCA Warren’s Young Women’s Leadership Board is hosting a “Girls Night Out” event that will feature women-owned business ventures from Trumbull and Mahoning counties from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 at the YW, 375 North Park Ave. The event also includes a chinese auction, light refreshments, speakers/presentations and music.

The deadline for vendor registrations is 4 p.m. Sept. 3. The vendor cost is $25 plus a chinese-auction item valued at $50 or more.
