City police confiscated an assortment of suspected marijuana plants from a South Side home that one man claimed were being used to treat his cancer.

Police responded to a citizen’s complaint Monday afternoon about marijuana growing behind a home in the 400 block of West Dewey Avenue. Officers discovered six large planters in the rear of the house, each containing a growing marijuana plant.

According to reports,

police spoke with a 37-year-old resident of the house through a window while

inspecting the plants.

Reports say officers noticed two smaller marijuana plants growing in paper cups on the window ledge while speaking to the man.

The resident eventually told officers all the plants belonged to him and were being used in the treatment of his cancer.

Police confiscated a total of nine marijuana plants from the home. The resident was released pending further investigation.
