Hubbard boys topple Liberty

HUBBARD

Nick Pedaline scored three goals while Tim Kemner scored two to lead Hubbard over Liberty, 5-0, in a boys soccer game Tuesday night.

Kemner also made two assists for the Eagles, while David Grimwood and Sterling Morris each had one.

Goalkeepers Steve Roose and Tayler Pagley were credited for the shutout.

Howland 2, Lakeview 0

HOWLAND

Ryan Divens and Connor Gilmour scored goals for the Tigers (1-0). Anthony Russo and Chris McClearn had assists. Goalkeeper Robert Daniels made five saves to earn the shutout.

For Lakeview, Alex Roscwicz made 13 saves. JVs: Howland, 2-1.

Fitch 5, Ursuline 2

YOUNGSTOWN

Sophomore Keanu Shelton netted three goals for the Falcons. Trevor Yacovone and Michael Shaffer each added a goal and an assist apiece while Nate Bowlen and Brandon Jankowski each had an assist. Fitch goalkeeper Chris Platton made saves.

For the Irish, Michael Lasko and Kevin Kablan scored while goalkeeper Zack Freer made five saves. JVs: Fitch, 3-1.

Poland 3, Salem 0

POLAND

Dan Hunt scored two goals and Kevin Krumpak one for the Bulldogs (1-0). Hunt, Krumpak and Drew Wagner had assists. Alex Magni and Adam Robertson combined for the five-save shutout.

For the Quakers (0-1), Kenny Saltsman made 14 saves. JVs: Poland, 6-0.

Heartland Christian 3, Columbiana 1

COLUMBIANA

Christian Stryffeler, Sam Flynn and Ben McCown scored for Heartland while Dan Walsh had an assist on McCown’s goal.

Hank Schlueter had Columbiana’s goal. Columbiana goalkeeper Nate Tate made 23 saves while Owen Stryffeler and Ryan Benner shared Heartland’s goalkeeping duties.

GIRLS

GREENFORD

Katelin Smith netted three goals while Kelli Johnston and Abbey Ausnehmer each had two goals and one assist as South Range opened its season with a 10-0 win over Youngstown Christian.

Also scoring goals were Emily Meals, Mayim Moore and Toni Stephenson. Hannah Weiry made two assists.

Allie Klumpp made 16 saves for Youngstown Christian (0-1).

West Branch 6, Southeast 0

BELOIT

Brandi Snyder and Niki Carlton had two goals apiece, while Elle Schlueter and Haley Willard each added a goal for the Warriors.

Southeast goalie Becka Riemenschnieder had 20 saves.

Warren JFK 9, Jefferson 0

JEFFERSON

Kelli Guarnieri scored three goals and Erin McBride two for the Eagles (2-0). Also scoring were Adrian Ashdown, Meagan Ashdown, Natalie Hoso and Mora Lucero.

Caitlyn Rodomsky made three assists while McBride had two. Also with assists were Guarnieri and Hoso. Goalkeeper Calli Kowach made five saves and Kelsey Case one.

For Jefferson (0-1), Lindsey Becker made six saves.

NILES 5, BEAVER LOCAL 1

NILES

Nicolette Merlo scored twice and had one assist to lead Niles on Monday. Raffaela Infante, Jordan Smith and Erin Clay each scored once, while Gabriella Infante added a pair of assists for the Red Dragons. Taylor Stewart also had an assist and Sara Scarnecchia had two saves in goal.

Hayley Cochran scored for Beaver Local.

POLAND

Carolyn Balzano scored twice and Erin Gabriel had one for the Bulldogs. Tatum Marruci had two assists for Poland.

Salem, which was outshot 17-4, got its goal from Chelsea Fuson, Goalie Kaitlyn Kelm made 14 saves.
