Ohio auditor issues finding for recovery
Poland
The state auditor has issued a finding for recovery for the middle school parent-teacher organization for the 2008-09 school year.
The audit found that the Poland Middle School PTO collected admission for volleyball, football and basketball games at the school for a total of $8,039. State law mandates that when more than $50 a year is received through a student- activity program, the money should be paid into an activity fund established by the district’s board of education.
School officials said last fall that the money did go back into school events, such as banquets. The PTO has already paid about $4,600 back to the district in June and will make a final payment in December, said Superintendent Robert Zorn.
Oil paintings shown at Weller Gallery
YOUNGSTOWN
“Nature’s Inspirations,” a collection of 22 works in oil by Ginny Lanterman Wiegand, will open Friday at the Weller Gallery at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
The exhibit, on display through Oct. 10, reveals the artist’s passion for painting flowers and includes pieces painted in Russia with Boris Gravoff, a master decorative artist.
After being selected to paint an ornament for the 2004 White House Christmas tree, Wiegand was honored at a White House celebration with then-first lady Laura Bush. The ornament remains in the White House collection.
A Youngstown native, Wiegand now lives in Florida. The public can meet her from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday in the gallery.
