Get ready to pay more for a hotel room in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (AP) — County commissioners in Cleveland are considering taking a bigger tax bite to pay for a proposed convention and medical trade-show center.

Cuyahoga County commissioners, who will lose their jobs when a new county government takes over in January, are weighing changes in the 4.5 percent tax on hotel and motel rooms.

The tax also pays for the Cleveland travel and tourism bureau.

In 2007, county commissioners increased the countywide sales tax to help pay for the project. It’s being managed by a developer who’s being paid $6 million a year by the county.
