HOWLAND

What began as one man’s tribute to his wife who died of breast cancer has turned into an annual music event featuring members of popular local acts from the past.

The second annual Breast Center Benefit Concert Reunion and Barbeque will begin at noon Sept. 5 at Up A Creek Tavern, 4793 E. Market St. Tickets are $10 at the door and include food. Proceeds will go to the Ireland Cancer Center at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Last year’s event raised more than $2,600.

Musicians performing this year will include members of the following bands: the Holes in the Road, Glass Harp, the Shaddows, L.A.W., MF Rattlesnake, Mom’s Apple Pie and My Uncle’s Army Buddies.

The event is hosted by Tommy McCoy in honor of his late wife, Vicki Taylor McCoy, who died in 1997. Joining as hosts will be Madam Weez and Damian Knapp.

Mark Matash, owner of Up A Creek, will donate the barbecue for the event, and all the musicians are donating their time.

Several items will be auctioned, including a guitar donated by The Music Center in Niles and a collection of Beatles memorabilia donated by Dorothy Kvesich from her late daughter, Susan Kvesich.

A DVD of last year’s concert will be sold.
