Fisherman hurt in boat explosion

OAK HARBOR, Ohio

An explosion on board a boat at a marina near Lake Erie has critically injured an Ohio fisherman.

Authorities say Donald Porter, of Dayton, suffered head trauma and other injuries in that explosion about 9:15 a.m. Sunday. Porter has been hospitalized at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Officer Jim Gorman of the Ohio Division of Wildlife says Porter had turned on the boat’s ignition after getting gas at the marina in Oak Harbor when the engine exploded and the boat caught fire.

Witnesses say the engine’s hatch cover was thrown 50 feet into the air.
