Tips for Youngstown school board
I hope the Youngstown Board of Education will:
1) Use good, unbiased, non-political judgment to select an experienced and capable candidate for superintendent.
2) Have the good sense and stamina — guts, if you will — to back the superintendent you name. Regardless of who you choose, he or she will be recommending a lot of changes: don’t let them down by undercutting their work.
3) Find a better place for special problem schooling. The old Rayen School building wasn’t built for the kind of treatment it would get. I have been led to believe the board is broke. Where did you find the money? You, the board, are still operating out of the Irene Ward Building — you don’t need the space, you can’t afford to pay the heating and electrical bills, so why not sell the building and use a space or spaces in the multitude of new schools you just built?
