OVI blitz near YSU nets 20 citations

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force made 20 citations and arrested three suspected impaired drivers during an OVI enforcement blitz late Saturday and early Sunday.

The enforcement took place on campus streets of Youngstown State University from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

With the start of the school year, the YSU Police Department wants to convey the message to students that YSU has a zero tolerance regarding anyone violating school-alcohol policies, the task force said.

The OVI reports these results:

Number of OVI arrests (over the age of 21): 3

Average blood-alcohol content: 0.15 (0.08 is the legal limit)

Seatbelt citations: 2

Driving under suspension: 3

Other citations issued: 11 including underage possession, open container and disorderly conduct)

Speeding citation: 1
