Toths to host their 14th annual open garden tour on Sept. 5

Gardens at the home of Rodney and Kay Toth, 5637 W. Liberty St., 2.5 miles east of Belmont Avenue, will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 5.

Guests will have the opportunity to view several major gardens featuring dahlias, a variety of unusual tomatoes, peppers, hostas, coleuses, many annuals and perennials and a 40-foot-long gourd arbor.

Plants of special interest to visitors will include Opera Supreme Pink Morn petunias; Tidal Wave Silver, a combination of Tidal Wave Hot Pink and Purple Prince zinnias; and Euphorbia Marginata and Arundodonax ornamental grasses.

Other interesting specimens include Galeux D’Eysines peanut squash; Magilla Perilla; Litchi and Porcupine tomatoes; Purple Showers Mexican petunias; China Town Celosia; Buddha Bellied Jatropha; Voo Doo Lilies; Heptacodium, Balsam Apple Vine and the distinctive Potpourri Pole, featuring Dutchman’s Pipe and Passion Flower.

Included at the event will be vocal entertainment by Monica Toth Baker at 2 p.m., and a presentation on mums by John Schinker of the Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown.
