Bowen, Duncan win local bowling title

For a second consecutive year, Mike Bowen and Doug Duncan won the Summer Doubles League at Boardman Lanes.
In the finals, Bowen and Duncan, also winners of the second 3rd, beat first 3rd-winning partners Sam Carissimi and Jen Sivak.
Third 3rd qualifiers Michele Gomori and Chris Tiberio and the wildcard team of Mark Beil and Dale Kushma also participated in the roll-offs, but were eliminated in the semifinals.
The championship match was neck-and-neck until Bowen-Duncan stepped up the pace in the final game with scores of 258 and 249, respectively, to capture the league title.
The summer league’s high average was Nick Evans’ 227, followed by Donny Bagdassarian (224.9) and Carissimi (224.7). Others were: Nick Gabrick (218), Duncan (213.7), Bowen (213.5), Dan Kalitich (213.3), Rich Wilson (208), Bill DeCicco (204.9), Tiberio (204.6), Vinnie Caliendo (204.1), Kushma (203), Rob Rosenberg (202), Russ Turner (201.6), Julio Quinones (201.1), Frank Palocyi (199), Chuck Pulice (198), Bob Cochran (193), Matt Grope (188), Beil (187), Peter Kirby (171) and Ed Chambers (157).
Among women, Sivak’s 187.2 edged Sue Baglama’s 185.9 and it topped Ashley Lombardozzi’s 167.2. Denise Finn finished with 150, while Gomori produced 141 and Cindy Bagdassarian 116.
The season highlight was Sam Carissimi’s 300, while other top singles were Bowen’s 299, Gabrick’s 289 and Evans’ 289. Carissimi’s 825 was the league’s high set, while Evans registered 788, Bagdassarian 784 and Duncan 782.
A summer-ending singles handicap tournament was won by Grope, who beat Gabrick, 799-744. Chambers placed third with 730, while Rosenberg was fourth with 701.
