Accident closes road

GUSTAVUS

State Route 11 between state Routes 87 and 322 was closed for about six hours Saturday morning after a commercial vehicle overturned, spilling paint from drums it was transporting.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the vehicle flipped while heading north on Route 11 about 6 a.m. The driver wasn’t seriously injured. Route 11 southbound was reopened to traffic about 7:30 a.m. The northern portion was reopened about noon.

Austintown Plaza fire

AUSTINTOWN

A fire to the roof of the Dollar General store in Austintown Plaza caused the evacuation of the shopping center Friday evening.

A truck driver got his vehicle tangled in electric wires, breaking one that landed on the store’s roof and started the fire, said Fire Chief Andrew Frost Jr.

The response by firefighters to the 5 p.m. call resulted in only minor damage to the store’s roof, he said. The other stores in the plaza were evacuated for about two to three hours, Frost said.
