WARREN

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, announced Friday that Warren and Niles will share $89,439 in federal funding from the Department of Justice to purchase equipment and train personnel.

Warren will use its share of funds to install radio equipment in police vehicles and improve the security at the justice center. Niles will install an in-car video system and purchase a portable entry shield.

“In this difficult economy, local municipalities have been struggling to provide the equipment and training due to declining resources,” Ryan said. “These needed funds will allow the Warren and Niles police departments to improve service to our community and ensure the safety and security of its residents.”

Ryan also secured $198,000 for the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
