Truck tangled in wires ignites plaza fire

AUSTINTOWN

A fire to the roof of a Dollar General store in the Austintown Plaza caused the evacuation of the shopping center Friday evening.

A truck driver got his vehicle tangled in electric wires, breaking one that landed on the store’s roof and starting the fire, said Fire Chief Andrew Frost Jr. A quick response by firefighters to the 5 p.m. fire call resulted in only minor damage to the store’s roof, he said. The other stores in the plaza were evacuated for about two to three hours, Frost said. There were no injuries.
