A group of teenagers came to Poland library Aug. 12 ready to rock.
The Poland library activity room was filled with tension because the stakes were high: Poland was the last chance to qualify for the Boardman finale of the summer teen gaming tournament. Champions of each library branch will gather to compete for a $100 prize.
Playing in double elimination rounds, the teens played Guitar Hero 5 at a difficulty level agreed upon by the competitors.
The Poland game play included an eclectic mix of songs, from modern metal songs to a funky rendition of “Superstition” that entertained the crowd.
Early favorite Ross Hill went head-to-head with expert Adam Bodendorfer, only to lose to Bodendorfer by a few thousand points.
Jonathan Miller used double elimination to his advantage, and after an earlier loss, came back to play Bodendorfer in the final round.
A fierce rendition of Rush’s “Spirit of Radio” left Bodendorfer as the Poland branch champion, to which he exclaimed, “My fingers hurt. All of them.”
