The children’s activity room at Austintown library could have been mistaken for a rogue pirate ship Aug. 12, as yells of arrgh, ahoy and yo-ho rang throughout.

Children’s librarian Kathe Orr planned her “Gotta Move Storytime” to be a pirate-themed morning.

“Gotta move is meant to burn off that restless energy that 2 to 5-year-olds have in bounds. Everything is more interactive than our normal storytime,” she explained.

The morning included recognizable stories and games with a new pirate theme. “If you’re a pirate and you know it” had the children stomping, clapping, and exclaiming yo-ho, and a hand game called “10 little pirates” helped teach counting.

A pirate adventure book had the children traveling deep into the jungle with a band of pirates. The morning ended with ring around the rosy.

“Active little bodies are active minds!” Orr said, in closing.
