The Coitsville Firemen’s Association is missing $5,300 from its savings and checking accounts, says the association’s president, T.J. Gigax.

Coitsville police are investigating, he said. Police Chief Michael Morris could not be reached to comment.

Gigax said the association first noticed the money was missing about two weeks ago.

“I got a call from the bank. It said we were overdrawn,” he said Friday. “Someone had cleared out both accounts.”

Gigax said the savings account has a zero balance and the checking account’s overdraft protection went into effect, leaving it with a deficit of $524.

The association raises money for the community and for the township’s volunteer fire department.
