Coach Christine Terlesky enters her fifth season at the helm of the Spartan girls golf program knowing if her team is to improve on its .500 finish from a season ago, her upperclassmen need to pass on the necessary leadership and direction to its younger team members.

“Our upperclassmen worked hard during the off-season, but the challenge still remains that we must improve each and every time out,” she said.

“The Federal League schedule is always tough and Massillon Jackson and Massillon Perry still remain the teams to beat.

Gone from last year’s squad are seniors Devein Ferrell and Deanna DeGennaro.

But three seniors and a junior are expected to pick up the slack.

Two of the three seniors, Dana Matz and Breanna Hull, return to the team, while Shelby Dofka is a first-year senior.

The lone junior, and someone who has improved her game over the past off-season, is Alex DeFabio.

The three sophomores include Hannah Rohrabaugh, Allie Moffo and Sydney Metzl. Freshmen Nadia Stratton and Anna Patoray will look to contribute for next several seasons.

Boardman played in the preseason Federal League Tournament Aug. 17 and the results were a good indicator to Terlesky of what will need to be done in order to improve over the course of the season.
