BHS boys golfers young, but show potential

As he heads into his eighth season at the helm of the Boardman High golf team, coach Ron Moschella notes that while his team is young, he is cautiously optimistic about their chances this season.
“We might be a young team, but we are improved from a season ago.
The preseason Federal League Tournament this past Tuesday gave us an indication of where we are and what we now need to do in order to become a better overall team,” he noted.
Only one senior, letterwinner Mike Calautti, returns to the fold, but eight juniors will lend valuable leadership.
Junior Jake Fait, the No. 1 Spartan player and one of eight juniors on the team, has improved from his sophomore campaign and Moschella is looking for a breakout season from him.
Other juniors include the long ball hitting Bob Diamond, Kyle Basile, Bill Patterson, Crawford Warick, Brian Linsley, Todd Merry and Ryan Mikolaj.
The four sophomores vying for tee time include Brad Dofka, John Diamond, Darian Wilson and Mike Witte. Freshman Jim Augustine is someone to keep an eye on this season.
