Full weekends planned at Sharon, Mercer

The DIRTcar Challenge Sprint series will take to Sharon Speedway on Saturday in a $2,000-to-win feature event.

The Series comprises 10 races at four tracks, with a $12,500 point fund.

Ed Lynch Jr. leads Bob Felmlee and Rod George in points, although Danny Holtgraver and newly named Sharon Speedway Sprints champion Jack Sodeman Jr. aren’t far behind.

The DIRTcar CSS previously appeared at Sharon Speedway in July as part of the Lou Blaney Memorial, when Mike Lutz led all 30 laps to record a win. Saturday’s appearance will be the final chance to catch the DIRTcar CSS at Sharon Speedway this season.

The Big Block Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Limited Sprints also will run. The event also will feature a Hawaiian luau, and fans are encouraged to dress in tropical attire.

For kids, there will be a bike race with prizes. To compete in the event, children are required to wear a helmet.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6.

Mercer Raceway Park

After suffering a complete rainout last weekend, Mercer Raceway Park will host two nights of racing this weekend.

Racing is Saturday night at 7, and a truck and tractor pull on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Saturday’s racing will include Modifieds, Late Models, Stock Cars, Mod Lites, and Mini Stocks, along with the July 24 Stock Car make-up feature.

The Open 358 Modified Summer Showdown will feature a 25-lap main event with $1,000 to win, $100 to start.

Drivers Lonny Riggs, Brandon Johnston and Tim Callahan will sign atuographs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The pits open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstand at 4:30. Warm-ups begin at 6:15 and the first green flag at 7.

Sunday’s pulling contests will include farm tractors, super stock 4x4 trucks and 7500-pound open 4x4 trucks.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with pulling beginning at 6. Admission is $8.
