Tom Seidler, 3rd Ward councilman, is resigning effective Sept. 1.

Reynold Paolone, council president, said he received a letter of resignation from Seid-ler.

Council is in recess; its next meeting is Sept. 13.

Paolone said Seidler has served in council for seven years and was in the first year of a two-year term scheduled to end Dec. 31, 2011.

Paolone said Seidler wrote it was “an honor and privilege” to serve on council. Seidler cited “family and other issues” as the reason for his resignation.

“He was very conscientious and honest,” Paolone said of Seidler. “He is a good man who cares about Girard.”

Paolone added Seidler’s leaving council is a loss.

Paolone said Seidler served as community development chairman and spent a lot of time working on the V&M Star project. “He put a lot of effort into that,” Paolone said.

Seidler’s replacement will be chosen Sept. 30 by the four precinct committee people who are Sam Lamancusa, Trumbull County treasurer; John Moliterno, city treasurer; Fran Wilson, committee person; and Jerome Lambert, director of public service.

Those interested in the position must apply. The one chosen will serve out the remainder of Seidler’s term.

Mayor James Melfi said Seilder “tried his best to represent the people of his ward.”
