The Weathersfield Board of Education on Wednesday approved a new, extended salary schedule for the high school and elementary school principals to begin in the 2010-11 school year.

Schools Superintendent Damon Dohar explained that the new salary schedule has been adopted “so we don’t have to constantly renegotiate” salaries.

Dohar said that a lot of other school districts have gone to a salary schedule to spell out raises to be received by administrators. “It makes it simpler,” he said.

The new salaries for high school Principal Lew Lowery and Seaborn Elementary Principal Cindy Mulgrew are in line with the percentage increases received by teachers and nonteaching employees in their new two-year contract at 2.25 percent in 2010-2011 and 1.75 percent in 2011-2012. Teaching and non-teaching employees have a wage re-opener in the third year of their contract, 2012 to 2013.

New middle school Principal Pete Santore was not included in the salary schedule. He has just completed his first year as principal. His two-year contract runs through the 2010-11 school year.

The two other principals have at least 25 years with the district, treasurer Laurena Rouan explained.

Lowery will go from $69,452 a year to $71,128 in 2010-11.

Mulgrew will go from $70,882 to $72,983 in 2010-11.

Both salaries are based on the step system which is based on additional education and years of service.

Salaries for the second year were not available.
