Ohio arts school opens its doors

CINCINNATI (AP) — A Cincinnati public school featured on an MTV reality show is reopening for the new school year in a new $72 million building.

The School for Creative & Performing Arts had been a high school but will now house 1,425 K-12 students in its new digs.

The school that opened today is built to accommodate performing arts study with three theaters, four arts studios and lockers designed for dance outfits. The old high school was adapted from a typical school layout.

Administrators say applications are up 40 percent, likely because of the new building and the MTV reality program “Taking the Stage,” which featured students from the school.

Officials hope the building in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood will be a community center for arts and culture.
