McDonald board sets up scholarship fund

The McDonald Board of Education set up a William and Dolly Toto Scholarship Fund on Tuesday after receiving a donation of $100,000 from Mrs. Toto’s estate.

Treasurer Brian Stidham said the couple was from the Cleveland area.

The late Mrs. Toto was a McDonald High School graduate.

The board accepted the resignations of four teachers, hired three new teachers and brought back one teacher from the reduction-in-force list.

The new hires and a new elementary-school principal, David Vecchino, hired earlier this month, will save the district an estimated $80,060 a year because they have a lower pay than the resigning teachers and former elementary principal Maggie Kowach, who has resigned to go to another district.

Previously, the board paid $298,938 for the old staff and estimates it will pay $218,878 in salaries for the newly hired staff.

Resignations were accepted from high school teachers: Laurie Crisan, Spanish; Josh Camuso, math; Diane Krumpak, science; and Courtney Kunkel, English.

Hired were: Rachel Hughes, high school math; Jennifer Trig, high school Spanish, Charles Mooney Jr., junior high science; and Dana Larson, elementary computer teacher, 32 hours per week. Katherine Sacco will be a long-term substitute teacher for high school consumer science.
