Machut to be speaker for Marine reunion

Marine Corps Reserve Brig. Gen. Roger R. Machut, deputy commander of the 4th Marine Logistics Group in New Orleans, is the main speaker Saturday for the 31st annual reunion of the Marine Corps League’s Tri-State Detachment.

The event, which includes food, refreshments, door prizes, auction, raffle and dancing, will be at the Italian-American Veterans banquet hall, 115 S. Meridian Road. The reunion begins at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight.

Machut, promoted to brigadier general this month, received a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1982 from Tulane University in New Orleans, where he was commissioned a second lieutenant.

He served with the 7th Engineer Support Battalion at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and had other assignments as a platoon commander and battalion assistant operations officer and was Marine detachment executive and guard officer aboard the USS Forrestal.

Machut joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1988, serving in various capacities, including commander of the 6th Engineer Support Battalion, Peoria, Ill., when it was activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

Promoted to colonel in 2004, he became deputy commander of the 4th Marine Logistics Group in March 2009.
