Univ of Scranton Press to shut down after 22 years
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — The University of Scranton Press will shut down this summer after 22 years and the publication of more than 200 titles.
University provost Harold Baillie says the press is a victim of financial pressures and shifting priorities.
Baillie says books of local interest represented about a third of the press’ output. It also published scholarly works reflecting the Catholic university’s Jesuit identity.
At its peak, the press published two dozen titles a year.
Baillie says the press stopped accepting new manuscripts earlier this year and will close at the end of the summer. Two employees will lose their jobs.
