Meeting on Medicare changes Wednesday morning in Warren

WARREN — International Union of Electrical Workers/Communication Workers of America (IUE/CWA) Local 717 is having a meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the union hall, 2950 Sferra Ave., on changes in Medicare coming next year.

At the meeting, open to the community, union officials want to warn people on Medicare to be careful who they let into their homes and to whom they give their Social Security numbers and canceled checks.

“We are getting a lot of retirees coming in and calling about sales people showing up on their door step and literally forcing themselves into the retiree’s home. Although there are legitimate sales people out there, members of our community on Medicare are targets right now and they need to be reminded of that,” said Karen Krolopp, Local 717 president.

The meeting is for anyone on Medicare to help protect them from scams and provide them information they will need to make decisions about their coverage for 2011, Krolopp said.
