Members recognized for service by Austintown Historical Society

AUSTINTOWN

During a recent past presidents dinner meeting, the Austintown Historical Society recognized Griff Thomas, a past president, for his service as president of the organization.

Receiving certificates signifying their contributions to the club were new life members, Barb Dellesky, Marge DeHoff and Idabelle DeHoff,

Heading the society in 2010 are Joyce Pogany, president; Marge Goldner, vice president; Veronica Terzak, recording secretary; Janet Smart, corresponding secretary; and Elaine Dovala, treasurer. Board members are Bill and Pat Davis, Patty Deak, Marge and Idabelle DeHoff, Susan Garchar, Barb Jones, Carol and Ron Kuzma, Rae Jeanne Mollica, Bess Scott and Thomas.

Smart introduced Sarah Vodrey, director of the Museum of Ceramics in East Liverpool, who presented a slide show featuring more than 100 rare and unusual pieces of pottery on display at the museum.

The society will offer free tours of the Austin Log Cabin, 3797 S. Raccoon Road, and the Strock Stone House on Mahoning Avenue on the first Sunday of each month. No reservations are required. Free private tours can be arranged by calling 330-792-1129. Reservations can be made at that number for a tea to take place at the Strock Stone House on Nov. 14.

Members will continue to serve refreshments on Tuesdays at the concerts in Austintown Township Park, and the society plans to award a scholarship to a Fitch graduate who will attend college and study history.
