Farid Naffah of the Avamar Gastroenterology and Center for Endoscopy in Warren will host an annual fundraiser to benefit prescription-medication programs for elderly patients at Trumbull Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph’s Medical Center. “An Evening Under the Stars” will be Aug. 28 at Cadobaz, Naffah’s private estate, 2747 Cadwallader Sonk Road. The benefit begins at 5 p.m., and features live music and entertainment from local magician Eric Thompson. Dinner will be catered by Michael Alberini. For ticket info, call 330-539-9999.

Commons Caf opens

End of the Commons General Store, 8719 state Route 534, has opened a cafe inside its newly-expanded 14,000-square-foot store. The Commons Caf seats 25 and features a menu including hamburgers, chicken, french fries, homemade pizzas and a full-service deli. It also sells homemade fudge, hand-dipped ice cream and other specialty items.

The Adult Training Center at the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center will offer several part-time computer and business classes, beginning in September. Courses include: Introduction to Web Design, starting Sept. 7; Intro to Computer Basics, Introduction to Word 2007, Accounting Using QuickBooks, Digital Camera Quick Start and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, starting Sept. 13; and Introduction to Excel 2007, Selling on eBay, Networking I, Introduction to Payroll Fundamentals and Introduction to Publisher 2007, starting Sept. 14.

The Ohio & Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters has launched a new website. The site, www.ovrcc.com, allows members to pay dues online and check links to other union-related information. The site was designed by grafik dezine, a Cleveland graphic design studio.

Heart Reach Ministries, a nonprofit Christian organization at 211 Redondo Road, is opening another classroom to meet the needs of families from Mahoning and Trumbull counties affected by kids with autism. The classroom will serve preschool children age 2 to 6. The curriculum will aim to transition children into “typical” classrooms in the childcare center to allow modeling of typical behavior and prepare children for kindergarten at local school districts.

Heart Reach is accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis.
