Charles J. Butler marks birthday


YOUNGSTOWN

On Aug. 14 Charles J. Butler celebrated his 90th birthday by attending Mass at St. Edward Church, where he is a member, and a dinner in the church hall.

Born Aug. 15, 1920, he was employed by Commercial Shearing and Stamping (Commercial Intertech) and retired as assistant vice president. He is a member of the Serra Club, Kiwanis, Curbstone Coaches, Butler Institute of American Art and the Youngstown Club, and has served on the boards of the Notre Dame Monogram and Chesterton clubs.

He had a successful basketball career through high school and college and eventually played with the Youngstown Bears in the National Basketball League, for which he was inducted into the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame.

He and his wife, Dorothy, have nine children, 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
