Those lending a hand to the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Aug. 5 got a sweet reward, as the library held a Spirit Day at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt in Boardman.

The library and Handel’s teamed up to raise funds for the Library Levy Campaign.

Fliers printed on purple paper announcing the event were available at the libraries for patrons to pick up and show their support. Every flier returned to Handel’s on Spirit Day was totaled and 20 percent of the total sales brought in from the fliers was donated to the Library Levy Campaign.

Handel’s brought in extra employees to work Spirit Day and expected a good response to support the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Dave Tamulonis, of Boardman, and his daughter, Erin, visited Handel’s with their flier in hand.

“We came out to support our library,” said Tamulonis.
