The stump from a large tulip tree has been transformed into a 10-foot woodcarving of a Falcon - the mascot of Fotch High School.

One Nantucket Drive family traded piles of leaves in the yard and more school spirit.

Mark Dietz and Michelle Chevront contracted R&S Woodcarving to transform the stump of a large tulip tree into a work of art featuring a falcon and the Fitch logo.

“The leaves were so big and there were so many of them,” said Dietz. “The whole yard would get covered.”

Dietz hired a tree removal company to cut down the tree and decided to have them leave a 10-foot stump for a woodcarving. He considered a variety of wildlife options before settling on the falcon.

“It’s pretty neutral; we’re a stone’s throw from the high school,” Dietz said. “If Fitch ever changes its mascot, I can remove the AF logo.”

Dietz is originally from Liberty and isn’t a die-hard Falcon fan yet, but he has high hopes for his two sons, 7-year-old Brandon and 9-month-old Kayden.

“They could be Fitch’s next superstars,” Dietz said.
